The August Horch Museum provides an entertaining experience of automobile history long remembered by all guests. When restructuring the building in 2002 until 2004 we deliberately put emphasis on a largely handicapped accessible museum concept, allowing visitors easy and unrestricted access to the exhibition and conference rooms.

The aim was to create structural preconditions for accessibility of all locations of the museum complex for handicapped visitors but also families with prams. This required on the one hand special solutions when refurbishing the historic structures since a multitude of requirements concerning preservation of the authentic condition of historical buildings had to be adhered to. On the other hand, an exhibition concept was to be developed, providing wide passages, or the intended demonstration of historical impressions such as a gas station and exhibition booth with access for all guests. We succeeded in achieving this with the exception of the Horch Mansion. Unfortunately, the Horch residence erected in 1911 could not be restructured in such a fully accessible way.

For our handicapped guests we supply reserved ground-level parking lots in close proximity to the museum entrance.

The museum may be accessed through a separate door in the entrance areas. After ringing the easily accessible doorbell, our staff will welcome you. Of course this also applies to families with prams.

Since there is no possibility for visitors in wheelchairs to change levels in the exhibition via a ramp (length and therefore possible gradient are subject to the historical structure), elevators connect the two levels of the exhibition. Conference and meeting rooms may also be accessed via the elevators.

Disabled-restrooms and a baby changing room are also available.

The entire exhibition area is equipped with comfortable seating allowing the guest to rest and linger.

In addition, further barriers were to be removed, in order to give blind or visually impaired and deaf or hearing impaired guests comprehensive insight into the history of the Zwickau automobile manufacturing. Special tours are provided by the museum on advance reservation. Please find further information at „Exhibition“ – „Guided tours“.
